Mapping Success: My Journey with Berkadia’s Amenity Maps
I had the pleasure of working on graphic design projects for Berkadia, a prominent property development company based in California. My contributions primarily involved creating visually appealing amenity maps and infographics to attract potential buyers and investors.
One notable project was designing a map for the nVe NoHo Apartment Building. This map included key landmarks such as metro stations, including the NoHo Red Line and the SFV Orange Line, and highlighted nearby amenities like North Hollywood Park and various retail, theatre, studio, community, and dining options. The nVe apartments are situated at the intersection of Chandler Blvd and Tujunga Ave, in the heart of North Hollywood.
The nVe NoHo Apartments boast a prime location, offering residents easy access to major thoroughfares, top employers, serene parks, and vibrant dining and entertainment options. The apartments’ website emphasizes the neighborhood’s appeal and the building’s modern amenities, from elevator access and bike storage to a fitness center and roof terrace.
In addition to the amenity map, I created an infographic showcasing sales projections for Berkadia properties. This graph/bar chart visualized the sales activity for various properties and projected future performance for the nVe apartments. The goal was to convey critical information clearly and compellingly to potential investors. The feedback from Berkadia was positive, and the work contributed to the successful promotion of the property.
The design process involved tracing areas from Google Maps using Adobe Illustrator, ensuring accuracy and clarity. I meticulously followed a color scheme provided by the design manager at Berkadia, which contributed to a cohesive and professional look for both the map and the infographic. While the work was technical, similar to Paula Scher’s approach to map design, I found it both challenging and rewarding. Scher’s innovative work in graphic design has been an inspiration, demonstrating how attention to detail can transform functional designs into compelling visual experiences.
This project marked my foray into geographic graphic design, a field I found both fascinating and fulfilling. My love for maps, from historical to modern, was a driving force behind this project. Working with Berkadia provided valuable experience and insight into the intersection of design and real estate, reinforcing my passion for creating effective and engaging visual communication.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this project!
